Gotfredsen joins Wakefield Quin

06.03.14-WQ.106Law firm Wakefield Quin Ltd has announced lawyer Erik Gotfredsen has joined the firm’s corporate department.

Mr Gotfredsen advises on a broad range of corporate, finance and capital market transactions, stated the law firm, and has more than 14 years of experience, practising in Canada, Japan and Bermuda.

“We are very excited to welcome Erik to our firm, as he brings a wealth of expertise to the table,” said Nicholas Hoskins, managing director of Wakefield Quin. With the addition of Erik, Wakefield Quin’s corporate department has expanded to include ten corporate lawyers.

Mr Hoskins added: “Erik is well respected in the market and his experience in Bermuda coupled with his extensive international practice will make him a valuable resource to our firm’s clients.

“Erik’s addition to Wakefield Quin satisfies a growing demand for high-quality services in the financial industry which will help strengthen our reputation as a leading law firm.”

For the last six years, Mr Gotfredsen has practised in Bermuda at a leading international law firm providing specialised advice on securities offerings, structured finance, banking and financial services, financial derivatives, secured lending and mergers and acquisitions. He also has an active general corporate practice, including advising on the establishment of companies and joint ventures in Bermuda, and is routinely instructed by leading international banks, financial institutions, public companies, private equity firms and onshore law firms.

Mr Gotfredsen said: “I am looking forward to taking on this new role and working with this respected team to build further upon their success.

“Providing first class client service to both our local and international clients will be my key priority.”

Prior to arriving in Bermuda, he had worked as a corporate lawyer at law firms in both Canada and Japan, as well as in the real estate finance group at Morrison & Foerster LLP in Tokyo, Japan.

Before relocating to Tokyo in 2002, he worked in the corporate and commercial group at Davis LLP in Vancouver, Canada.

Mr Gotfredsen is admitted as a solicitor in British Columbia, England and Wales, Ontario and Bermuda and has received his B Com and JD from the University of Victoria, Canada and his LLM from Kyushu University, Japan after being awarded a Monbukagakusho scholarship by the Japanese government to study in country.
